The OnePlus 15 Gets ColorOS 17: What’s New and When You’ll Get It

OnePlus owners are getting more than a routine software update this month. The company is moving its phones from its own OxygenOS software to Oppo’s ColorOS, and the OnePlus 15 is first in line with ColorOS 17, based on Android 17. Searches for the update jumped more than sixfold in India this week as owners rushed to see what changed. The OnePlus 15 ColorOS 17 update brings a new look and a wave of AI features. Here is what is new, the full OnePlus update schedule, and what to know before installing.

A Big Change: Goodbye OxygenOS

For years, OnePlus phones ran OxygenOS, a clean version of Android that many fans loved. OnePlus has now confirmed a transition to ColorOS, the software used by its sister brand Oppo, as part of a broader strategy change. The OnePlus 15 is the first OnePlus device to make the switch, as Croma reported.

The stable update started reaching OnePlus 15 phones in India in phases from around 23 October, with firmware version CPH2745_17.0.0.102(EX01). The official global start date is 29 October.

What’s New in ColorOS 17

ColorOS 17 brings a refreshed design and a strong focus on AI:

  • A new fluid design, with translucent visuals, smooth animations and responsive touch effects.
  • Better performance, with an upgraded engine for managing resources, app launches and multitasking.
  • AI Mind Pilot, which can automate multi-step tasks across the system.
  • AI Mind Space, a personal memory hub for saving and finding information.
  • AI Mind Suggest, which offers contextual suggestions through the day.
  • Fluid wallpapers and refreshed system apps, including redesigned Settings screens.

What OnePlus Fans Should Know

The move to ColorOS is a significant change for long-time users. Some features, settings layouts and default apps may look different from OxygenOS. Fans who chose OnePlus for its lighter software may want to explore the new settings carefully after updating.

Before you install, follow these steps:

  • Back up your phone, including photos, messages and authentication apps.
  • Charge your battery to at least half, or keep it plugged in.
  • Use Wi-Fi, since major updates are large downloads.
  • Check for the update in Settings, under the system update section, if you have not received a notification.
