October brings a busy month for PlayStation Plus subscribers, with nine new games heading to the Extra and Premium tiers. It also brings a reminder that every catalogue giveth and taketh away. Sony has confirmed that GTA V is leaving the service in November, just days before its sequel arrives. Here is the full list of new PS Plus games, the key dates for Australian players, and what you should play before it disappears.
The October Game Catalog Lineup
Sony announced the additions on 14 October, as GameSpot reported. Extra and Premium members get:
- Mafia: The Old Country (PS5), a prequel to the original Mafia games
- Horizon Forbidden West (PS5, PS4)
- Mycopunk (PS5), a co-op shooter launching straight into the catalogue on day one
- Poppy Playtime: Chapter 2 (PS5, PS4)
- The Midnight Walk (PS5)
- Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn Edition (PS5, PS4)
- Monster Energy Supercross 25 (PS5)
Premium members also get two classics, Dino Crisis 2 and RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Complete Edition, plus new Game Trials for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy and Mortal Shell II.
When the Games Arrive in Australia
Sony is trialling a staggered rollout in the US, the UK and Japan, where games arrive on different days. Elsewhere, the full lineup is due from Tuesday 20 October, as Push Square notes. Australian players should expect most of the catalogue from that date, although a title or two can occasionally vary by region.
Pick of the month
Our pick is Mafia: The Old Country for story fans, and Mycopunk for friends who want a fresh co-op game on launch day at no extra cost. Horizon Forbidden West remains one of the best-looking games on PS5, so it is worth a look if you missed it.
GTA V Leaves on 17 November
PS5 owners have started seeing a notice that Grand Theft Auto V will leave the Extra and Premium catalogue on 17 November. That is two days before GTA VI launches on 19 November. The notice offers to let you either keep playing or pre-order the sequel.
This is not the first time. GTA V has cycled in and out of PS Plus several times, so it may return one day, but there is no guarantee. If you want to finish the story or revisit Los Santos before the new game, now is the time. Our guide to the GTA 6 leaks and release date covers what to expect from the sequel.
What Else Is Leaving, and What Comes Next
Sony usually reveals the full list of departing games when the new batch arrives. The rest of November’s removals should be confirmed on 20 October. The next batch of monthly Essential games is expected to be announced on 28 October. Checking the “Last chance to play” section in the PlayStation Store helps you avoid losing a game mid-playthrough.
A Strong Month, With One Big Goodbye
October’s catalogue offers a good mix of big-budget adventures, horror and co-op fun. GTA V’s exit adds a deadline worth noting for anyone wanting one last trip to Los Santos. Download your picks from 20 October, and plan your GTA V playthrough before 17 November.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which PS Plus tier do I need for these games?
The Game Catalog requires Extra or Premium. Classics such as Dino Crisis 2 and the Game Trials need Premium.
Will I lose my GTA V progress when it leaves?
Save data is generally kept, so buying the game later usually lets you carry on. Check your saves before 17 November if you are unsure.
Is GTA VI coming to PS Plus?
There is no sign of that. New blockbuster releases rarely join subscription catalogues at launch.
Do I keep catalogue games if I cancel?
No. Catalogue games stay playable only while your subscription is active and the game remains in the catalogue.
